Thomas Pynchons Mason & Dixon and Gravitys Rainbow :: Mason Dixon
Thomas Pynchons mason & Dixon and Gravitys Rainbow .....Snow-Balls have flown their Arcs... These words begin the wondrous passage that introduces us to the world of Thomas Pynchons current masterpiece, mason & Dixon. In an obvious parody of A screaming comes across the sky, the first step of Gravitys Rainbow, Pynchon sets the mood and pace for the rest of the novel. In contrast to the mindless pleasures, insoluble desperation, and ubiquitous death that dominate virtually every page of his apocalyptic earlier work, this novel begins with a joyful snowball fight amidst children on the streets of eighteenth-century Philadelphia. Indeed, the rest of the novel generally maintains this playful and happy tone. Unlike the sexually disturbed and socially displaced isolates that make up Pynchons footslog of prior heroes (or more capably anti-heroes), the book focuses on the relationship of two normal men, Jeremiah Dixon and Charles stonemason, who form an incredible bond of friendship . Needless to say, this has lead critics to wonder on the button what has happened to Pynchon in the last twenty years. Has marriage softened the author? Is this a kinder, gentler Pynchon for the nineties? To some extent, the fact that critics are still scrambling to explain the extreme differences between his previous work and stonemason & Dixon may explain the relative paucity of literary criticism available on the new book to date......I would like to necessitate a small head start step towards a better understanding of Mason & Dixon by considering Pynchons conception of report, a theme which is crucial to both it and Gravitys Rainbow. In spite of all the differences, Mason & Dixon remains a scathing indictment of conventional history as true to Pynchon as any of his other works. Furthermore, beyond setting the mood and providing self-parody, the opening is the first of many passages which both link the book to Gravitys Rainbow, and suggest that beneath the happy surface of the novel lie omens of a bleak future. In this context, Mason & Dixon can be read as a meditation on the era in which the technology, philosophy, politics, and economics that plague the twentieth century were just world conceived. For Pynchon, modern history has a destructive trajectory like that of a rocket, a path that begins around the time Mason and Dixon are working on their line, and ends in the nightmarish world of Gravitys Rainbow......Despite the fact that most of Pynchons views remain a matter of constant debate in literary circles, scholars of Gravitys Rainbow seem to agree that Pynchon views history with a harshly skeptical postmodern eye.Thomas Pynchons Mason & Dixon and Gravitys Rainbow Mason DixonThomas Pynchons Mason & Dixon and Gravitys Rainbow .....Snow-Balls have flown their Arcs... People like these can be hard to come by, but as students of Stoll High School, we concur been extremely fortunate to have access to an entire staff of eager, ambitious and passionate teachers. Over our years here at SHS, many of us have been encouraged by one, if not more, of these extraordinary people. Perhaps when I asked you to think of that person who has inspired you, it was one of your teachers. These are the people who make a difference in the world. They may not affect the price of tea in China, but they challenge people around them to become better than they ever c ould on their own. Personally, I have been make and inspired by several excellent teachers. I would love to go through and list them all and tell you what theyve done for me, but Im afraid that if I did, I would lose the attention of those of you who are still actually listening to me. However, I would like to mention twain of my personal heroes. commencement exercise of all, the most challenging teacher I have ever had, Brady Smithson. Im not sure exactly how I did it, but I survived two and a half years in her English classes, and somehow managed to keep my sanity. But through it all, she taught me to work harder than I ever imagined I could. Thanks for everything. And also, on that points my greatest inspiration, John Grabowski. Mr. Grabowski, thank you for the exceptional improvements which you have brought to the music program. It is so encouraging to see a teacher who views his work not as a job, but as a quest.

President Andrew Jackson Essay -- Essays Papers
President AJAndrew capital of Mississippi was born in 1767, and grew up in the border of North and to the south Carolina. He attended frontier schools and acquired the reputation of being fiery-tempered and willing to fight all comers. He also learned to read, and he was often called on by the community to read aloud the news from the Philadelphia papers. In 1775, with the beginning of the American Revolution, Andrew Jackson, then only 13 years old became an orderly and messenger. He took assort in the Battle of Hanging Rock against the British and in a few small skirmishes with British sympathizers known as Loyalists or Tories. His brother Hugh was killed, and when the British raided Waxhaw, both he and Robert were captured. Because Jackson refused to polish the boots of a British officer, he was struck across the arm and face with a saber. The boys were put in a British prison in Camden, South Carolina, where an epidemic of smallpox broke out. Mrs. Jackson gained her boys releas e, but Robert soon died. Mrs. Jackson then volunteered to nurse other American prisoners, and she too caught smallpox and died. Andrew was now 14 years old and without any immediate family. With the war over, he took up saddle making and school teaching. With a $300 inheritance from his grandfather, he went to Charleston, South Carolina, then the biggest city in the South. There he cut a dashing figure in purchase order until his money ran out. In 1787, Andrew Jackson became a attorney and he set his office up in McLeanville, North Carolina. He quickly became successful lawyer and engaged himself in land speculation. He soon moved his office to Nashville where he met and fell in love with Mrs. Rachel Donelson Robard. Believing that Mr. Robards had obtained a divorce, they were marital in 1791. Two years later they found that this was not so and the divorce had just then become final. A second marriage eucharist was performed. However, this failed to prevent gossips and political opponents from attempting to make a scandal out of the Jacksons happy marriage. Mrs. Jackson endured in silence the many slanders that followed. Jackson, however, preferred to use dueling pistols to avenge his wifes honor. In 1796, Andrew Jackson was elected into the House of Representatives, representing Tennessee. He soon allied with the Jeffersonian Party, criticizing Washington and his administration. Jackson also pushed through Congress a force bill that authorized the use of federal troops to collect the tariff. The crisis was eased when, through the efforts of Henry Clay, Congress passed a compromise tariff in 1833 along with the force bill. As a put up defiant gesture, South Carolina accepted the tariff but nullified the force bill. Jackson had preserved the Union, but nullification remained a great question. By 1836 Jackson was weak from tuberculosis and had no thought of seeking a third term. However, he stubbornly continued with affairs of state and party, including ensuring that the party nominated new wave Buren as his successor. Although he was eager to return to the Hermitage after Van Burens election, he grimly fulfilled the duties of his office until the inauguration the following March. The last day of Jacksons establishment was as much a personal triumph as his first. Thousands came, not to see the new president but to bid good-bye to their beloved hero.BibliographyEncarta

Mary Shelleys Frankenstein Employs Typical Features of the Gothic Trad
Mary Shelleys Frankenstein Employs Typical Features of the Gothic Tradition One of the most of import aspects of any Gothic novel is setting. Mary Shellys Frankenstein is an innovative and disturbing work that weaves a tale of passion, misery, dread, and remorse. Some would argue that Frankenstein is a classic Gothic novel. By a classically Gothic novel it is meant that the story employs a traditionally scary theme. This could include such things as dark and dreary castles set in isolated surroundings replete with dungeons. Supernatural beings such as ghosts and living dead may be included in the twisted, thrilling, unveiling tale. The novel does guide many Gothic characteristics in a sense that it does explore the uses of dark dreary basements, where the monstrous creature is made. Frankenstein is not set in a scare away and dreary basement but you could say that where Frankenstein worked on his creation to be a gloomy dreary room. There is a struggle betw een costly and evil end-to-end the story, an example of this is seen in Victor Frankenstein and his monster. We also get a lot of suspense around the person who is next to be polish off or die. An example of this is before Elizabeth dies when Victor Frankenstein is anticipating his own death. The Author of Frankenstein the novel Mary Shelly had a very unfortunate childhood. Death reeked all around her throughout her life. In all I think that Frankenstein can be classed as classically gothic novel. It contains continuous references to typically gothic features. Malaysian Ethics: The Bad, The Ugly and The Worst Essay
We have compiled a short video of different ethical motive and mortalalities. Malaysia is definitely a unique country in terms of culture, theology and morals. Its diversity is the main reason for its colorful ethics which are also unpredictable at times. Malayan ethics are not all unsloped or wonderful and rather scary in truth. The idiom Do not judge a book by its cover intelligibly explains the ethics in Malaysia as its diversity is just an appearance to mask the ugly truth about(predicate) Malaysians. It is very difficult to predict whether Malaysian ethics will become better or worst in the near future. Malaysia is already a well-known country for its affair jams, especially in Kuala Lumpur. The traffic in the city of Kuala Lumpur is congested but still not as bad as in Jakarta, Indonesia or Bangkok, Thailand. It is already a norm for Malaysian guiders to complain, scold and throw insults due to the terrible traffic jams. These typical drivers are also no strangers in v iolating traffic rules by drive recklessly or double parking. Some drivers are even disrespectful as they look down on people by seeing the type of car own and their gender. In the video, an elder Malaysian driver is bad-mouthing about the humble car parked in front of a row of shops. She purposely blamed the small car because she is unable to find a suitable parking space. She even set a bad example for her grandchild by double parking and bragging(a) unreasonable excuses for doing so. It is also normal for Malaysian male drives to underestimate the driving skills possessed by wowork force. The worst thing in Malaysia is definitely road rage. Malaysian drivers tend to show little care for new and probationary drivers. It is already common for Malaysian drivers to bully and scold these new drivers for hogging the road. The work productivity in Malaysia is still at a low level due to the work ethics in the country. Malaysian workers are prone to giving unreasonable and extra excuse s, just for a day off. Some even skip work and fail to meet the deadline for their projects. It is definitely an unacceptable behavior in the working industry as careers, jobs and work should be prioritized. The behavioral ethics in Malaysia is at a critical point as Malaysians are getting lazier day after(prenominal) day.It is also very common for Malaysians to come late for meetings as punctuality is not important to them. Moreover, Malaysians are not honest in terms of bills as they like to avoid paying for something. It is an unethical idea to owesomeone money by asking them to pay for you after telling them diminutive lies and excuses. Even the young generation is affected by the bad ethics in Malaysia. Young children are getting more purchasable as they vex to tell white lies so as to escape punishment from their parents. They do not think of the consequences ahead as these lies cover them from their mistakes but causes a blamable feeling in them due to their innocent c onscience. To show you a more in-depth view on the video, we will explain it barb by scene. The first scene was a wo earth driver goes against traffic rules and double-parked the car behind another car. It is irresponsible for a driver because it will cause traffic congestions or may be an accident. The woman driver son was there warned her do not double-parked behind a vehicle but she insist on her decision. The woman do not shows a good example for her son. In future, he will learn from this bad example to do the same incident as his mammy did in the past. The second scene of the typical Malaysian driver was not to look down on woman driver. We know that almost all man usually have a good driving skill but woman too have the same skills as man. The scene shows 2 men were betting on her whether she will park her car nicely in the space provided. Its shows that people does not see woman as good as man in driving purposes. The third scene with a person driving the car reckless should not happen. It makes the road more dangerous for motorists to drive and it will cause a bad accident. The last scene of the typical Malaysian driver is driver do not respect the probation in driving that just got their license. Everyone will have this situation in life that you have to go through driving under probation. The last video of our moral word-painting is about the excuses which is also a lie to avoid any arguments. The first scene is the boss of the employee asking him why he did not turn my yesterday in the office. The employee give excuses avoiding any warning letter or worst is getting fire from the company. When it comes to money, almost everyone will have an issue about money. The person uses excuses to avoid paying and asking their friends to pay the meal. But it will eventually not paying back the friend money. The person shows that he is a dishonest person when it comes about money. Every parent will want to know their children marks after an exam. But this child g ivesexcuses to avoid telling his mother about the marks he had. This shows he will hid the marks from the parents until some point parents need to go to schoolhouse to find out about what their children is doing in school that have that kind of marks. Malaysia is a beautiful country to live in with a unique base of different cultures. The only downfall is the countrys bad ethics as local citizens are changing drastically in terms of behavior and manners. Malaysians should take an initiative in improving their ethics in work, public areas and even at home for the sake of their own pride and outlook by others. It is also essential for the government to intervene in creating the perfect and friendliest multi-cultured citizens through campaigns, advertisements and creative activities. Lastly, ethics are important as they not only reflect on the countrys image but also on its citizens.

Psychological View
Psychological View Many Ameri canisters, until this day, have been diagnosed with psychotic person disorders. harmonize to the Schizophrenia Health Center, psychotic disorders are a group of serious illnesses that presume the mind. These illnesses affect a persons responsibility to think clearly, make good judgments, respond emotionally, communicate effectively, understand reality, and behave appropriately. When symptoms are severe, people with psychotic disorders have difficulty staying in touch with reality and often are unable to meet the ordinary demands of daily life.In Edgar Allan Poes poem The down, we can see that the verbalizer of this famous piece of American literature is a man grieving over the death of his belove, Lenore. The speaker tries to go on with his life, but he always feels grief for the person he wooly-minded. No matter what he does, the feeling comes back, and he cannot ignore it besides like we couldnt ignore a bird in our room who was always staring at us. Based on my reading on The consume by Edgar Allan Poe, the speaker was hallucinating images, suffering depression, and struggling with with(predicate) delirium tremens. After reading Poes poem, we can clearly see all of the speakers mental conditions. Throughout the poem The Raven, the speaker suffered hallucinations. The loss of his beloved Lenore hit him hard, especially psychologically. That I scarce was sure I comprehend you here I opened wide the door Darkness there and nothing more (page 468 lines 23-24). Through this quote, the speaker shows auditory hallucinations. Hes sure he heard a knock on the door, but when he opened it, there was nothing but darkness.According to my understanding of the poem, the speaker also suffered visual hallucinations, unless we fall upon that the speaker really did see a raven. However, it does work well as a symbol for mental disorder, especially as a raven is cognize for its color, and depression is often referred to as the black d og. People who have hallucinations may hear sounds or voices or see things that are not really there, just like the speaker from The Raven theory he saw a raven. The speakers loss of his beloved Lenore brought great depression upon him. Eagerly I wished the morrow vainly I had sought to borrow from my books surcease of sorrow sorrow for the lost Lenore for the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore (page 467 lines 9-11). The speaker is grieving for his lost Lenore and it is almost as if the raven has been sent as a messenger from the underworld to torment the speaker even more. According to the Depression Health Center. eeling dispirit can be a normal reaction to loss, lifes struggles, or an injured self-esteem. Left untreated, depression can lead to problems at home, work, school, drug abuse, and even tragedy. Depression is a mental illness that affects most of the worlds population, but if treated correctly it could be cured. The loss of the speakers beloved Leno re made him fall into depression, and sadly he couldnt get himself any help. Based on my understanding of the The Raven, the speaker is struggling through delirium tremens.According to an article from Medline Plus, delirium tremens is a severe form of alcohol withdrawal that involves sudden and severe mental or nervous agreement change. The speaker of The Raven had too much going at one time of his life, so most likely he turned to alcohol as a nepenthe. Nepenthe was an ancient Greek concept of a medicine for sorrow, it would be what today is classified as an anti-depressant or a drug of forgetfulness. Scholars have thought of it as a substitute for Opium or Wormwood. We can tell he had some drinks because he was feeling weary. Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered lightheaded and wearyAh, distinctly I remember it was in bleak December (page 467 lines 1 and 6). The speaker mentions that it is night time and that hes in his leave feeling weak and weary. This could be possib ly due to extreme alcohol consumption especially since the poem mentions that it is December, a time to be merry with our loved ones, or perhaps just alone and drunk if we have lost our loved one just like the speaker in The Raven did.According to an article all about delirium tremens, the main symptoms of delirium tremens are confusion, disorientation, agitation, and fever. The speaker seemed confused and disorientated because he was still grieving the loss of his beloved Lenore. The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe is one of the most famous poems in American literature. Emotional, verbal and strong-arm abuse are molly linked with bullying as they can make a person feel bad about themselves rather quick and easily. Physical abuse I am now going to focus on two types of abuse which are physical abuse and self harming.Physical abuse is any form of pain which is inflicted on a person and is done on a daily basis. Hurting someone in an intentional way is physical abuse. This form of abuse may consist of many things such as Scratching Head butting Shouting Drowning Dragging Around Sleep loss Throwing Outside/Locking Outside Putting in stress positions Blinding (Blindfolding) scolding Cutting Kneeing Strangling Hitting Pushing Pulling Hair frosty Physical abuse allows them to control someone as the abusers strike fear into their victims leading them to do, say and act like the abuser wants them to.Physical abuse took place in Long Care (Stoke Place), here the patients were physically abused by their careers. This involved them being slapped, kicked and hit on a daily basis to control them into doing as the careers wished or to prevent them from doing something. Self harming Self-harm is when someone intentionally hurt themselves by damaging or injuring heir body and is used as a way to deal with or express emotional sorrow. In closely cases people who self harm do it to help them to deal with overwhelming and unbearable emotional issues which are caused by problems such as Social factors- like being bullied, having difficulties with work or school or having difficult relationships with friends or family. Trauma- such as physical or sexual abuse or the death of a close family member or friend. Mental health conditions- such as depression or borderline personality disor der. Self harming is a lot more common than people realism and can take part in any persons life.It is more common to appear in the lives of 15 and 16 years old as in 2002 a I-J survey showed an estimate that 10% of girls and 3% of boys had self harmed in the previous year. In some cases people self-harm with the intension to kill themselves but often people self harm to punish their selves, express distress or to relieve tension. Self harming can also be seen as a cry for help in some cases. Types and point outs of self harm in that respect are many ways that people can intentionally harm their selves such as Cutting or burning their skin Punching themselves Poisoning themselves with things such as tabletsMisusing alcohol or drugs Deliberately starving themselves (anorexia nervous) or binge eating (bulimia nervous) People who self harm will keep it a cabalistic as they fear the shame of discovery therefore it is often up to family or friends to notice when someone is self harm ing and for them to approach them with understanding and care. Some sign may include unexplained injuries or a person may show signs of a low self esteem or even depression. mortal who is self harming could seriously hurt themselves and should therefore be referred to a doctor so that they can discuss the underlying sue and find a way of treatment and therapy to help them. The events such as physical, sexual and emotional abuse that took place at places such as Long Care (Stoke Place), Wintergreen candidate and Stafford Hospital (Mid-Staffordshire Hospital Trust) may have lead to a person to self harm as they may feel bad about themselves and therefore feel the need to punish their selves or in some cases end their lives. In places like this if self harming was discovered in a patient aught would have been done to help them as the abusers would have seen it as a cry for help which could lead them to getting caught in the acts they had committed. In conclusion this presentation show s that abuse happens in lots of peoples daily life, whether they are in a care home or in home or workplace and that in some cases it doesnt get found out about or nothing is done about it. It is important that abusers get caught and prosecuted and that the victims get the help they need. It is also important to out about things that a person may have seen or noticed in another. Places such as the ones mentioned in the presentation were involved in most of the types of abuse discussed and nothing was done about it until it was captured on film.

How schools kills creativity Essay
Sir Ken Robinson present about how schools kills creativity in a in truth interesting way. In other words, he manage to grab peoples attention in all over twenty minutes of the display by telling jokes. According to Sir Ken Robinson these days students are educated to be a strong workers rather than creators. Sir Ken said Creativity straight is as important in education as literacy, and we should treat it with the same status. children have a great ability in innovation because they are not afraid to make mistakes. According to Sir Ken if youre not prepared to be wrong youll never come up with anything original. However, universe wrong is not the same thing as being creative but you cant be creative unless you make some mistakes. These days we teach our children that being wrong is the worst thing ever and that kills creativity in them.Every single child in the world is an artist according to Picasso and if theyre frighten away to make mistake they wont be able to create anythin g, thus were educating them out of their creative capacities as Sir Ken said. No doubt that what Sir Ken said is right and I totally agree with him. I think that the way that we are educating people these days is not right at all, because we are putting limits to their minds. In other words, we recruit people to be workers not creators and so people want their degrees just to get a good job. As a result, they get their job and thats it they do nothing, if we will push all people to study and get their degrees 50 years later(prenominal) degrees will have no value. many people have talent but they think theyre not as Sir Ken said Many highly talented, brilliant, creative people think theyre not because the thing they were good at school wasnt valued, or was actually stigmatized.

Current models, statistics, and research are conclusive the time to invest in Romania is now.Position Statement The recommendation standing and supported by enclosed financial statements are as follows Launching a credit card in the Roma nian market would meet the stated purpose by targeting the ladened and most overflowing audience (Exhibit 1). The marketing approach pull up stakes consist of direct sales in conjunction with branch cross selling (Exhibit 2). Also the use of magazine and television advertising strategies will enhance our position. This approach will add support for the recommendation of taking advantage of a primarily non-penetrated market. Reason The opportunity to invest in the Romanian credit card market yields potential r in timeue growth, along with increasing the life time range of each customer, new and existing. With Romania entering the European Union, Alpen Bank has been prompted to re-visit its previous credit card approach in the emerging economy. Additionally, there has been an increase in luxury products and purchases, displaying increased consumer purchasing power, a potential indicator of an increased interest in credit card. Furthermore, Romania is in a transition period, with ca rds gaining favorability over cash payments. Alpen Bank hopes to build upon prior methods explored in Romania by competing banks in penetrating the credit card market.Decision Options (Exhibit 6)1.Launch a credit card in Romania.2.Do not launch a credit card in Romania.Decision Option 1a.Add a new market Alpen Bank can continue its successful venture in Romania by adding a credit card to its portfolio. This will shelter a continuing growth in an increasingly teeming Romanian upper class. As purchasing power is determined by income level and accumulated wealth, the affluent class is more able than the middle class to make purchases on credit. b.Increase revenue Current models and predictions indicate a strong opportunity to importantly increase the yearly revenue by investing in the credit card market. Calculations display how the venture will increase the life time value of each customer, ensuring future growth. (Exhibit 1)Decision Option 2a.Focus on existing markets Venturing in to the credit card market could draw resources away from core Alpen Banking services already in effect for the Romanian market. b.Assure no potential risk All investments come with inherent risks. By investing substantially into an exploratory market, Alpen Bank is speed the risk of not meeting the expected outcome. The potential monetary risk could run into the millions of dollars, along with an incalculable risk to reputation. How to measure Decision Option 1a.Establish a customer base with the affluent and most affluent By building upon the genuinely excising clientele, along with attracting untapped segments of the prosperous Romanian upper class. By comparing the actual number of clients utilizing the Alpen Bank credit card with the models and predictions made pre-credit card launch. (Exhibit 4) b.Increasing revenue from the credit card launch Expected revenue from the credit card enterprise is projected to be 6,698,391 within two years (Exhibit 2). By updating current calcula tion models with on-going information as the enterprise reaping allows for ongoing monitoring of predicted return on investment. The lifetime value of customers will overly be assessed on a yearly basis, predicting the value of loyal, long term users of credit cards. How to measure Decision Option 2a.Projecting further growth without credit card. Venturing into the Romanian credit card market taps resources away from current banking business. Investments could also be put to use in other areas, such as higher frequency of branches opening or improving services shortly offered. b.Customer awareness of the banks premium brand By investing in already offered business services. Alpine Bank is committed to improving our outstanding line of service currently offered to the Romanian clientele.Critique of Decision Options 1Per limitations of senior management, the investment into the Romanian credit card market must prove itself profitable within two years, yielding at least five million euro. Investing in developing a profitable line of credit cards comes with several risk factors. Predictions of profit could be erroneous, leading to a less than expected return on investments. This in turn could lead to rescindable and irrevocable damage to reputation, potentially resulting in a net loss of customer over short and long term. Projections of the positive effects of Romanias young acceptance into the European Union could also be incorrect. By investing time and energy into a new business venture, current banking services could brave out from subconscious neglect by employees involved in both enterprises.Critique of Decision Option 2A decision not to invest in the Romanian credit card market will be a hinder of growth. Currently, competing banks are investing and have invested in the growing credit card market. By delaying a venture, Alpen Bank is permitting competitors to gain establishment and credit market branding. Alpen Bank currently holds the potential necess ary for a successful venture into the credit card market. By failing to employ said resources, Alpine Bank is neglecting talent and opportunity, which could lead to failure in expected profitability.Being accepted into European Union brings increasing prospect of higher return on investments in the credit card market. By choosing to stay out of the market, Alpine Bank is also forcing excising customers to other banks for credit card services. As experienced in other emerging markets in developing countries, credit card customers are less likely to switch from one credit card to another. Therefore, failing to introduce a line of credit cards now will make it increasingly tight to attract customers when Alpen Bank eventually starts its credit card venture.Action planGoalsLaunch a credit cardReach the affluent and most affluentLaunch marketing and adverting that appeals to our audience Action StepsShort termMarketing Plan Release a Premium Marketing Plan that is focused, achievable, compelling, and simple. As evident by exhibit 1, the chosen target group is the affluent and most affluent segments of the Romanian population. By ensuring a proper understanding of the moral force characterizing the targeted demographic, we are able to construct the appropriate marketing plan. This will instill the programs, tactics, incentives, and budgets necessary for a strong image and a consistent message stretchability the targeted customers.Marketing Investing in direct sales and branch cross-selling holds the highest effective rate of potential customers reached. These two methods also have the lowest cost per customer. let they ensure the most effective tactic in recruiting customers to Alpen Banks credit card. (Exhibit 2)Advertising Magazine and television advertisements. Our advertising goal is to capture the worry of perspective applicants as well as converting prospects involved with other credit card venues. Establishing a clear message for the audience is essenti al in launching advertising Alpen Banks advertising campaign. A premium clientele deserves a premium banking experience. The launch of the campaign considers the sophisticated, vernacular culture of our Romanian clientele. The goal is to assure the same quality experience in our established bank while adding an innovative credit card product to allocate more options for our clientele.-Magazine advertisements could feature admired Romanian model Diana Dondoe, to highlight Alpen Banks image of being an upscale and exclusive provider of banking services. -Television advertisements could consist of 30 second runs of a Romanian couple being picked up by their driver and dropped off at the premier launch of the credit card. These are some alternatives in bon ton to illustrate how the product could be marketed.Launch of promotional events by the Alpen Banks public relations department. Evening events could be held at elegant local venues for charitable fundraising purposes.Long termConti nuing growth in the Romanian market, with special focus on the credit card market. Attracting customers to Alpen Bank by focussing on its premium image and superior services. Expansion in the credit card market, to have established a customer base of 200,000 customers five years following initial launch. As the Romanian economy is growing, the percentage of population with a disposable income is increasing. Alpen Bank will focus on attracting new members of the affluent segment of the population. Increase the lifetime value of each customer, by further expansion of the financial services offered. Increase credit card utilization by informing clientele of benefits associated with credit card purchases, along with temporary potential incentives offered in order to change consumer habits.Risk and CountermeasuresThe chosen target demographic of affluent and most affluent Romanians could prove itself too limited for effective penetration. However, as the Romanian economy is growing, the targeted demographic is also expected to expand in size. Therefore, even if the current market niche is too limited, it is expected to grow substantially over the next two to three years. The expected profit of five million could not be achieved within the timeframe of two years. As limitations set by senior management calls for a substantial profit to be made within a relatively short amount of time, there is a risk of the time restraints not being met. Yet these restrictions add a clear vision, enable a structured approach in order to meet the expected outcome within the set timeframe.Final recommendation and conclusionBy venturing into the Romanian credit card market, Alpen Bank is capitalizing on a ripe product opportunity. Current predictions and models consistently indicate that by pursuing the recommended strategy, Alpen Bank will becharm profits grow by a minimum of 6.6 million over two years. Romanias recent acceptance into the European Union, accompanied with an increase in purchasing power among the affluent fragment of the population will ensure a substantial return on investment. Filipino crab mentality Essay
Individuals have been aspiring for a progress in their coun fork out. With this material body of mindset, a nation impart be adequate to(p) to embrace prosperity. On the other hand, the Philippines still clay to be poor withal though we, Filipinos, have been longing for its progression. We have this disease c anyed backbite wag that is one of the reasons that bars the growth of our nation and is a great obstacle to the entire citizenry of our country. If I locoweedt have it, neither can you. A very popular phrase that runs along the counselling of thinking of many Filipinos. This short-sighted, selfish, non-constructive thinking is called crab wit. Crab outlook that exists among many Filipinos was first coined by Ninotchka Rosca, is metaphorically illustrated by the behavior of crabs in a bucketful. All of them are struggling for survival so they desperately need to beat up out of the bucket. One crab tries to climb its way out of the bucket but the other crabs beneath him will not let him escape and drags him down, thinking If I cant escape here, then you cannot too. In the end, all of them will not be able to pretend out of the bucket.Crab mentality, as narrated by Kane Lawless, is a term used colloquially referring to a person trying to leave an unprivileged- sustenance but is kept from doing so by other people who choose them back for they resent that persons success. It is an act of keeping others from getting what they want and not abstracted others to be successful. This prevalent Crab mentality is also reflected on the famous saying we all equivalent our friends to get ahead, but not too far ahead. The tendency is they knock those people ahead of them down.A person pulls you down just to get them to the top or if it sees that that person cant get out of his or her bad life, he or she pulls you down so that both of you will consider the same misery. Filipino crab mentality entered the picture when the Spaniards colonize our country. Natural-born Filipino natives (indios) scarpered as servants to the peninsulares (Spaniards born in Spain but residing in the islands) and insulares (Spaniards who were already born in the Islands). In order to survive, indios totally embraced the crab mentality. They destruct the reputation of a ducky.Once the damage had been done, the indios then presented themselves as better to others for them to become the new favorite of the peninsulares and insulares. Crab mentality was still practiced even after the Spanish colonization where we were next colonized by the Japanese and Americans. Decades passed but until now, traces of crab mentality have remained with modern-day Filipino (Americanenglish. ph). Unfortunately, such mentality is widely shown everywhere. It is found in business, charitable organizations, social networks, politics, education, and religion. Its also found across race, gender, and even at home. Crab mentality is like a zero sum game where a educe by one player must be matched by a loss of another player. on that point is no mutually beneficial exchange. There are only losers and winners in this world view, and everyone is into making someone else a loser. It is common in places which have competitive environment like in an organization or at an office. A struggling worker possesses crab mentality for he negates the successful deeds of his coworkers.Workers hinderance at each other to pull them down rather than congratulating someone who earns a promotion. People who attempts to get out of misery often ensure themselves foiled by friends and relatives who keep them sucking back in. When someone decided to pursue a college at a prestigious university, some of his friends, neighbors or even family members would disapprove him to so that he wont be able to get out of his bad life situation or that he could not get ahead of them. In the world of politics, there is a character assassination. Politicians possess crustacean sensibilities.Ac cording to James, the crab mentality in the losers of the election will not let the winners succeed. The crab mentality in them will try to pull those in power down. For example, if Manny Villar wins, Jamby sing camp will not simply shut up and pray Villar becomes a successful president. If Noynoy Aquino wins, the pro-Manny Villar concourse will probably not work together with Noynoy in helping him to attain progress for the country. They will not praise for their opponents vision of the Philippines nor they will help each other but they will find a new dirt to throw at someone else face instead. This mentality strikes at all levels. Neighbors are defaming neighbors through bad rumors and gossips. Jeepney drivers flat the tires of their fellow drivers jeepney for them not to obtain higher income for the day. Students are destroying their classmates work or project so they wont get higher grades than them. Why is there crab mentality? Crab mentality is manifested by the acts of hat e, greed, envy, and jealousy.Men behave like crabs when these acts control their heart. They try to outdo each other because of insecurities and selfishness. The crab mentality exists because of the mans unseen emotional demands and earnest envy of the achievements and possessions of others. When one envies somebody, one of his natural reactions is to knock him down and that best describes crab mentality. Crab mentality is something that can be found in all segments of the society. It is reaching the top at the expense of others. Individuals hinder the path of the one aspiring for progress. They knock others down to acquire their position or to prevent them succeed. homogeneous the crab, some people believe that lifting their selves up is to submit others down. Crab people may try to bring you down with every way they can, with anger, verbal attacks, spreading false information, talking behind your back, destroying your works and efforts, and deter you to greener pastures. Theyll ruin your reputation for you to lose your self-confidence and to stop reaching your dreams. We, Filipinos, fall as victim to the indisposition of crab mentality that wrecks the reputation of our country and that interferes to our nations progress. The Philippines just cant seem to move forward with this mentality and we still wonder why our country remains poor. So who suffers in the end? Who are trapped all together and cant ever escape in a bucket? All of us. WORKS CITED Americanenglish. ph. Feminism and Misandry in Popular Culture Essay
Feminism is dead. What exactly do I mean? Feminism is meant to be about sexual activity equality, but this is no longer true. Instead, feminism has become synonymous with misandrythe hatred of men. Men be confederacys official scapegoats while women are portrayed as victims. Men are often penalized for the corporal guilt of men throughout history, and women feel they deserve compensation for this perceived victimization in the past. plot of ground the early feminist movement ensured equal opportunity for women, it now serves womens special interests.Popular flavour portrays men as violent and animalistic, while women are viewed as caring and matronly. This is a misnomer perpetuated by a gynocentric society. According to a 2003 study by the Domestic Violence Research Center, it is estimated that 6 million men are victims of domestic violence in Canada alone, accounting for nearly half of all instances of domestic violence. However, fewer than 100,000 cases of male domestic abu se were reported. While it is true that women make up a larger function of fluff victims, one in thirty-three men is pillaged or attempted to be raped by a woman.Even more shocking is that less than 1% of all male rape cases are ever reported. Barbara Kay, a Canadian gender equalist, says that the disparity between the reported cases and estimated cases is Due to ethnical norms that require men to present a strong facade men are less believably to verbalize fear of any kind. Further discrimination happens against fathers. It is commonly assumed that the best interests of the squirt concur with the best interests of the mother, but this simply isnt true.In the study conducted by Patrick Fagan and Dorothy Hanks published in The kid Abuse Crisis The Disintegration of Marriage, Family, and the American Community, the most likely perpetrator of abuse to a minor is the childs mother. The father is the parent most likely to be the protector of children, and the same study instal t hat the presence of a father greatly lessens the risk of child sexual abuse. Yet many child custody laws in Canada and the United States strongly favor women.Approximately 70% of all custody cases are awarded to women in Western culture, and this percentage drastically increases in America and in the South. Most significantly, though, is the guilt that men must endure. Masculine traits are considered shameful or low-brow, while feminine traits are viewed as milled or high-brow. Overt manliness is something likened to piggishness or idiocy. Male sexuality is depicted as lustful harassment, while female sexuality is flaunted as beautiful and elegant. The hatred of men has become so mainstream that regular(a) Hallmarkknown for its politically correct sentimentsfeatures cards reading There are plenty of things easier than decision a good man Nailing Jell-O to a tree, for instance. or Men are scum let off me. For a second there, I was feeling generous. Hallmark is not the only one m aking property off of popular prejudice TV shows, books, comic strips and even the new media all pander to this male chauvinist trend. Western culture is seen as the height of the civil rights movement.Great activists like Louisa G. Anderson and Susan B. Anthony revolutionized Britain, America and the rest of the world. red-brick feminism, however, caters to the personal gain and special interests of women. Gender equality applies to men and women alike, despite efforts by feminist elitist to cast down and exclude the male gender. Men endure much of the same injustice as women. Misandry is of equal brilliance to misogyny, and should be treated with the same intolerance.

Elijah Anderson (2000) claims, the idea of the race man goes back to the segregated Black/African American community, in fact all the way back to slaver (Elijah Anderson, 2). Modern leadership like Jesse Jackson could be viewed as a race man meaning, his cooperate is deeply imbedded when he feels the Black/African American community has been treated unjust. As a leaders of the Black/African American community, there is always a sentence to become actively voluminous in the community, especial pertaining to police brutality. Secondly, Emmett Till is other example of police brutality, exclusively in another form.Note, Emmett Till was not beaten by the police however, his brutal beaten came from a group of exsanguinous men in Money, multiple sclerosis. I define this travesty as police brutality due to the milepost of social dissimilarity that police brutality has fed off of. Bob Blauner (1992) reveals, Chicagoan Emmett Till in Mississippi has been awakening to the end of social equality (Bob Blauner, 1). Instances such as the brutal killing of Emmett Till light-emitting diode to the civil rights movement. The civil rights movement was ge ard towardhelping not only Blacks/African American community, nevertheless helping America dismantle discrimination, segregation, lynching, double standards of laws and rules, police brutality and overall equality. The civil rights movement was alter with many acts of police brutality. For instance, a woman in Riverside, California was cinch several times by law enforcement officers. They claim they were threaten by her, but had no idea this woman was engulfed in a diabetic coma.Legalized Cop Violence (1999) sh ars, Dontae Dawson was sitting in his car and was ordered to raise his hands, when he did he fatally sho t and killed the officer claims he thought the young man had a hero The new York News, 12). The civil rights era proved that law enforcement officers did not serve the poor, the power slight or the un-influential. The legalized violence that was connected throughout the civil rights era has drasti squawky changed however, police brutality is still presently evident. For instance, officers of the law are servants of the state. They h aged deeply to the interest of capital, wealth, and government to corporate figures. Currently, Black/African American leaders are still dealing with the vicious killing of two youth. These two particular situations has rocked the nation. First, Trayvon Martin, who was seventeen years old was walking from a community store in Sanford, Florida and was shoot to death at close range. No, he was not shot by the police moreover, this situation has ignited once again racial inequality which is no stranger to police brutality.Although Trayvon Martins assassi n was found not guilty, laws in the State of Florida allows citizens to stand they ground if they feel threaten. The 2014 State Statues of Florida 76.013 reveals, home protection use or peril use of perverting force presumption of fear of death or great bodily harm is permitted. Despite the grave racial progresss our society has made since Emmett Tills death, from the civil rights era, to present increase of police brutality has still left the Black/African American community in shadows of segregation. The second most fresh shooting of teenager Michael Brown has left citizens in ongoing battles with law enforcement officers of Ferguson, atomic number 42. New Statement (2014) reports, Missouri police similarly attempted to retain control of the narrative, claiming Brown had stolen cigars, and then paying for them, and then claiming he was a bad child and attacked the officer who shot him (New Statement, 21).Brown autopsy reveals he was gun less and shot sixtimes. Police brutalit y is not solely about Ferguson, Emmett Till, or the civil rights movement, but it is simply about the history of capitalism and police brutality in America and having many forms of it. Which leads us to the question has times really changed are is police brutality still very surreal. Granted we talked broadly about Emmet Till, Trayvon Martin Michael Brown, and the civil rights these are not the only men or eras in time where police brutality has and still to this day is taking place. A few others who have suffered and died from police brutality include Ezzel Ford who was mentally disabled and John Crawford III who was playing with a toy gun in the toy section of Wal-Mart. I know there are more people and time eras that have faced police brutality but these are just a few that are having a major impact on the world as we see it today. Which rises brings us to the question is Police Brutality the problem or as we as African America/ Blacks causing the problems and then when police ar e called to settle or solve the problem we over counterbalance or act as if we have done nothing wrong. Some cases in which police were called to a scene and they were hurt or out in danger include in July of 1920 phoebe bird police were called to a home in New York to settle a dispute between two brothers where in return all five of the cops were injured, another time is in September of 1991 when three of duty officers in the state of New York were in a argument with a 18year old who in return pulled out a box nifty razor knife slashing one of the officers. Now I am not saying that because of these incidents this gives cops a reason to act the way that they do, but my question again is are we as African Americans/Blacks all in all innocent or do we sometimes react to situations when cops are just doing their melodic lines that make them feel threatened so they have to kill. Yet there are more and better(p) ways to deal with situations. bonny like we the people should not alway s resort to violence and killing and committing low on black or white on white crime police need to and should follow the same rules of the world. any man woman boy and girl should be treated how they would want to be treated. Im sure the way police treat African Americans/Blacks when we commit crimes is not how they would want their family and or friends to be treated. There are some people who think that the way to downgrade police brutality is to pick out more white ways specifically the white perspective and to manifest intensively. Granted this is true however, I do believe that just like us African Americans cansometimes over react and over step our boundaries, I believe that cops have a bad habit of doing this as well. Yes your job as a police officer is to protect and serve the communities that you are in but moreover we are all humans and at this day in age no one is better than the next person no matter what race ethnicity sex or community you live in we are all said to be treated equal but are we treated as equals? If we were would there be so often police brutality and hostility toward police.Since the Trayvon Martin, and Michael Brown case I can see and understand why so many people have so much hate in their hearts. Although Trayvon Martin was not shot by a police officer he was shot by a moderateman of the area Which in my opinion means if you are here to watch our neighborhood and protect us then he should of known who Trayvon was he should have been tolerant t figure out if Trayvon was really a threat to the neighborhood or if he was just overreacting and smell for somebody to shot and the same with Michael Brown who was actually shot by police men were the bound the gun and did not take the time to find out if he really was stealing or if there was a miscommunication which I believe thats what it was. Which leaves us to the question with the belief that slavery has cease and that all people are equal then why is that police have and co ntinue to prevail away with the brutally killing of African Americans.Works CitedAbu-Jamal, M.
